The Jubilee Scholarship

Malvern College Switzerland

Terms and Conditions

At Malvern College Switzerland, scholarships are highly prized and are awarded in recognition of proven talent or exceptional potential. This June 2022, to mark the very special occasion of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Malvern College Switzerland is proud to announce the Jubilee Scholarship.

Since ascending the throne 70 years ago, Queen Elizabeth II has personified all the qualities we have come to respect and admire as being typical of everything it means to be British. From the tender young age of 25, Queen Elizabeth II has showed maturity, character, determination and commitment of the highest order. She famously addressed the nation via radio saying, “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and service of our great imperial family to which we all belong”. As we now look back upon the last 70 years we can say without hesitate that Queen Elizabeth II has been true to her words.

As The First British-Branded School in Switzerland, the Malvern College Switzerland community takes pride in belonging to the great British family referred to in Her Majesty The Queen’s address to the nation. We encourage all members of our community to embrace and adhere to the Malvern principles of humility, self-awareness, open-mindedness, independence, ambition, risk-taking, integrity, curiosity, collaboration, kindness and resilience. Malvern College Switzerland combines the very best of a long established tradition of academic excellence with the intellectual curiosity to pursue new innovations. We encourage considered risk-taking supported by self-awareness and resilience, we inspire our pupils to be curious, to collaborate with others, to be open-minded, to be ambitious and at the same time to display kindness, integrity and humility.

With this in mind, we are delighted to launch the Jubilee Scholarship. Jubilee Scholars will become ambassadors of the Malvern Qualities. By personifying the Malvern qualities, our Jubilee Scholars will help to ensure that all members of our MCS community flourish in life and contribute positively to the world around them. We believe that the true purpose of education is the cultivation of inner virtues, life skills and character strengths that equip our young people with the confidence and direction to pursue meaningful and successful lives. Successful recipients of the Jubilee Scholarship will receive fee remission of CHF 7’000 per annum during their time at Malvern College Switzerland. In return, we will ask our Jubilee Scholarship to commit to acting as special ambassadors for our Malvern qualities. We will expect them to promote the qualities amongst their peers and lead by example as they personify these qualities in their day-to-day lives.

Application process
Candidates should select six of the Malvern qualities (humility, self-awareness, open-mindedness, independence, ambition, risk-taking, integrity, curiosity, collaboration, kindness, resilience) and give examples (in writing) of ways in which they will promote these qualities within the MCS community and provide examples of ways in which they have displayed these qualities to date. The proposal should be submitted in writing (preferably typed) by email to admissions@malverncollege.ch by June 30th (deadline for 2022 entry; or September 2023 entry). Candidates will also undertake an interview with a senior member of staff at MCS. This will be informed by the written proposal. Successful completion of our MCS entrance assessments (comprising online papers in Maths and English) will also be required and can be arranged at any stage during the Jubilee Scholarship application.
